CLINICAL BODYWORK AND ATHLETIC RECOVERY

MEDICAL MASSAGE

Medical massage is a targeted therapy that is designed to relieve pain, improve mobility and speed up recovery process. It is not a full body massage. Your therapist will create a personalized treatment plan based on your needs and goals, as well as their findings during your first session.

The techniques used in this session may vary depending on the condition being treated, and they usually involve a combination of myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy and stretching. We may also use fascia scraping and cupping to help improve blood circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.

A standard session is 60 minutes long. A longer (80 minutes) session might be recommended if you have multiple issues that need attention or for addressing larger muscle groups, for example lower extremities and lower back.

We recommend it for:

  • Chronic pain related to job activities, such as lower back or neck pain from prolonged sitting at a computer, or knee/shoulder/elbow pain caused by repetitive movements and overuse;
  • Conditions related to car accidents, such as degenerative disc disease (bulging discs) or Whiplash Syndrome (persistent neck pain and headaches);
  • Past traumas and injuries that continue to cause pain, discomfort and limited mobility.

STRUCTURAL BALANCING

Structural Balancing is a bodywork modality focused on aligning and balancing the musculoskeletal system. When combined with Physical Therapy or Functional Movement Training, this approach can be highly effective for postural correction. By releasing muscle tension that contributes to spinal misalignment, structural balancing helps restore proper posture and promotes better overall alignment.

Your first session will begin with visual assessment of your posture to identify areas of tension and weakness. A course of 10 sessions combined with physical therapy is ideal for achieving the best results.

We recommend it for:

  • Anyone struggling with scoliosis, "forward head" posture, hyperkyphosis ("hunched back") or hyperlordosis.

CUPPING THERAPY (Only cupping 30 minute session)

Cupping therapy is a form an ancient Chinese medicine. It has been used for centuries to treat a variety of conditions, including pain, inflammation, and respiratory problems.

The suction cups are placed on various parts of the body (depending on what problem we are working on during our session) and left for 7 to 15 minutes per area. The suction created by the cups is intended to stimulate blood flow and stagnant waste elimination, which helps to promote healing, decrease pain and improve mobility.

Please note that most people will experience bruise-like marks on the treated areas, which can last from 3 to 14 days.

We recommend it for:

  • A quick and efficient way to relieve pain and inflammation;
  • Individuals who prefer not to be touched but still want to experience the benefits of massage.

PREGNANCY AND POSTPARTUM MASSAGE

Pregnancy and postpartum massage are specialized therapies designed to support women through the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy and recovery. Pregnancy massage relieves common discomforts like back pain, sciatica, fatigue and more while promoting relaxation. It uses gentle techniques and careful positioning to ensure safety for both mother and baby.

Postpartum massage aids recovery after childbirth by reducing muscle tension, restoring body alignment, and easing discomfort from breastfeeding. Additionally, it helps balance hormones and provides emotional support during the postpartum period.

Massage in the first trimester of pregnancy is not recommended as it is a very sensitive time for the developing human.

If your pregnancy is considered high risk we are kindly asking you to talk to your health care provider prior to your massage treatment and obtain a medical clearance note to make sure that massage is a safe option for you and your baby.

We suggest starting with a shorter 30-minute session if you are new to massage to ensure your body tolerates it well. This allows you to experience the benefits without feeling overwhelmed. Once you are comfortable, you can always opt for a 60-minute session.

We recommend it for:

  • Pregnant women starting at 13 weeks who are experiencing pains and aches or seeking relief from stress and anxiety;
  • New moms adjusting to the demands of caring for a newborn or infant.

FULL BODY MASSAGE

Full body therapeutic massage involves manipulating the soft tissues of the body to promote relaxation, increase circulation, and relieve muscle tension. It typically involves using long, smooth strokes, kneading, friction, and other movements applied with light to moderate pressure. Swedish massage is generally considered a more gentle form of massage compared to other modalities, making it suitable for individuals who are new to massage, don't react well to very deep pressure or simply seeking stress relief.

A standard session is 60 minutes. A longer (80 minutes) session will allow your therapist to concentrate on a specific problem area while still providing you with all the benefits of a full body massage.

We recommend it for:

  • Calming the nervous system to promote relaxation and alleviate stress;
  • Individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, or PTSD;
  • Chronic conditions causing pain in multiple joints or areas of the body, such as arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia or lupus.

MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE

Performed by a Certified Manual Lymph Drainage Therapist.

Manual Lymph Drainage is a very gentle manual treatment technique designed to stretch the walls of superficial lymph vessels, which stimulates an increase in their activity. It is used to mobilize lymph fluid which helps to remove excessive fluid and stagnant waste (for example, hematoma contents, bacteria, mold spores, dirt) from the body.

Manual Lymph Drainage is NOT a massage. Massage targets deeper structures like fascia, muscles and tendons, where MLD works on superficial layers like skin and subcutaneous tissue (beneath the skin).

This treatment is designed for patients with healthy lymphatic system ONLY, meaning this is not a Complete Decongestive Therapy used for lymphedema management.

We recommend it for:

  • Post-surgical (orthopedic or plastic surgery) or post-traumatic recovery to relieve swelling, bruising, pain and prevent hypertrophic scars and keloids;
  • Management of chronic conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome, migraines and fibromyalgia;
  • Treatment of cellulite and lipedema;
  • Prevention of lymphedema following cancer treatments, such as radiation and/or surgery, where local lymph nodes have been removed.
